Did you know that your body builds muscle while at rest? It’s an excellent reason to get a good night’s sleep. Are you looking for ways to get better sleep? Proper rest is important to overall health and well-being. It’s no coincidence that stress and insomnia are the hallmarks of modern life. When you have trouble sleeping, it creates stress on your body and causes your adrenal glands to crank out a hormone called cortisol. This, in turn, increases your blood sugar. When cortisol increases, so does weight and extra sugar gets stored as abdominal fat. I don’t know about you, but increased stress and belly fat don’t make me a happy person. I want my resting body to build muscle!
If you are seeking ways to prevent stress, or if you are looking for things to help you sleep, try going to bed at the same time every night. If the room is light, wearing a comfortable face-mask helps to block out light. Set your bedroom thermostat at an ideal temperature, and if you’re chilly, use more blankets. A warm shower within an hour of bedtime can help with insomnia, or try some helpful aromatherapy sleep remedies such as inhaling lavender or chamomile essential oils. I have a ritual of slathering a fragrant hydrating cream on my hands and feet before bedtime, as it helps me wind down from the day. I highly recommend Origin’s “Ginger Souffle” whipped body cream.
Remember that the more you think about the sleep you are missing, the more anxious you will be. Instead, try implementing these simple strategies so that you can reap the healthful benefits of proper rest, and get 7-8 hours of quality sleep each night.
