Finding workout motivation is an important aspect of fitness. When I don’t feel inspired, it’s tough to get started with an exercise program. It seems like I’m the only person on earth who feels that way. Fortunately, it’s not true. I even have proof!
Tony Horton, creator of the best selling workout program, P90X, is known by his millions of fans for his take-no-prisoners, straight-talking approach to fitness. Yet, even Mr. Horton admits that after thirty years, his desire for exercise isn’t automatic. Finding workout motivation is even a struggle for him. He recently posted this on his Facebook wall:
“It’s Hard, it Sucks and I Hate it!”
“This is exactly how I felt this morning when the alarm went off at 7:15AM. Today was Shoulders and Arms for me. I did Plyo last night and the morning could not come slow enough. The thought of 24 sets of handstand push-ups, shoulder flies, incline presses, biceps curls, triceps pull-downs, and more was the LAST thing I wanted to do.
My mind was on the all day shoot for the P90X Certification videos I was filming today. Today’s mind game was in full tilt. The lazy guy was winning the word battle. Thank God my buddy Matt knocked on my door at 7:25, because without him, today’s workout could have been skipped. I know that many of you deal with this same daily battle, and most days aren’t easy.
You can skip those workouts and struggle like most people, or you can find a way to do it anyway. Find the people who want what you want and Do Your Best to show up more days than not. That’s what I did today, and I’m a better man for it.”
Since I started reading “The Big Picture,” I’m more committed to my health, nutrition and fitness goals. I highly recommend reading this book, even it’s just for 10 minutes at a time. It’s got some great suggestions, a good dose of humor, and sound advice. Like Mr. Horton, I have found that being a part of a workout accountability group has made a big difference in my outlook. The group provides encouragement, great suggestions and inspiration when finding workout motivation requires digging deep.
