Did you know that the failure rate for weight loss without exercise approaches 100%? In order to lose body fat and increase lean body mass, exercise is a key component to success. If you are too busy to even imagine taking on an exercise routine, it’s time to rethink your priorities and figure out what will work for you. Good health is not something to take for granted. How much better is it to spend your time increasing your chances for weight loss and wellness, vs. getting caught in the downward spiral of creeping weight gain that increases your odds of being sick. Take some time to figure out how you can make your health a priority. Think of what you can do to make exercise effective and fun so you can pave your way toward good health and fitness.
Perhaps you haven’t exercised in a long time, and don’t know where to start. Many studies show early morning is the ideal time to exercise, and the consistent frequency to aim for is 5 days per week. By starting with 10-15 minutes of exercise, that includes a combination of cardio and strength training, you’ll spend your fat stores and increase your lean body mass and increase your fat loss. Depending on your current health and level of fitness, a visit with your physician is recommended before starting a new fitness program.
Simple daily lifestyle adjustments can help add exercise to your daily routine. If you’re conscious about using the stairs instead of the elevator, you may even reduce your chances of catching a cold or worse. When traveling, if time permits, walk between gates, and skip the moving corridors. Find a workout partner to go on a bike ride with you, or look for ways to meet healthy-minded new friends!
When it comes to healthy weight loss, there is no magic pill. A lifestyle adjustment, in addition to healthy food choices, will eventually retrain the body to respond to food and activity appropriately. While your initial focus with exercise may be on weight loss, the added benefits of improved energy, sleep, vitality and motivation will keep you grounded with your new priorities. What exercise will you include in your daily routine for 100% success?
